5 Group Travel Tips

I have been fortunate enough to participate in several group travel tours, and my experience overall has been great! Group travel allows explorers to let the guides take care of the itinerary and timing, while enjoying the vacation for themselves. However, not being in charge and knowing the day’s plans can be frustrating for some. Preparation can make all the difference, so here are my top 5 trips to make your experience excellent!

1. Pack practically!!!

Look at the itinerary before you leave, and pack your outfits based on the activities and weather. Consider how much walking you may do, how hot or cold it will be, and if locations require certain clothes for entry. Being prepared will keep you from scrambling on the day of the trip. I always recommend packing clothes that are comfortable to wear for a wide range of activities to be prepared for anything. The most important item is good quality walking shoes. Almost every tour is spent walking, hiking, and standing for long periods.

2. Talk to everyone

At the start of your tour get to know as many people in your group as possible. Remember their names, and learn basic facts about them. You will meet many strangers and become close friends. Fellow travelers will come from different places which allows you to learn even more. At the end of the trip stay in touch!

3. Check your Luggage

Although many tour companies will advise against checking a bag, I find it’s much easier. Check your luggage right when you get to the airport. You can then pack as many liquids as you would like, for me that means sunscreen. Checking your bag removes the stress of dealing with more items during a busy travel day. Pack light on the way to your destination and leave space for souvenirs!

4. Try Everything

Try everything that’s offered to you. After the first day of your trip you will likely already have sore feet, and the constant want to take a break. Even with this, participate in every activity available. You won’t regret it. At meals, try all the foods, even if something doesn’t seem appealing to you, or different from what you are used to. All of these little things can enhance your trip and immersion in the culture of your location.

5. Be Positive

Keep a positive mindset. For some people, travel brings out their best, and some their worst. Don’t let others’ complaints get to you, enjoy your trip and be grateful for the opportunity. Some things will not go how you hoped, and that’s fine! Just enjoy all the great things that each trip has to offer
